As only the second Canadian host of this event in its 59-year history, WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Ltd is proudly hosting The 40th WorldSkills Competition from September 1 - 7, 2009. Over 900 Competitors will compete simultaneously in 45 skill categories during four-days of intense Competition on Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Hailed as the pinnacle of global skills, trades, and technology competition, this biennial event promotes excellence and international competency industry standards.

WorldSkills Calgary 2009 is the largest independent event ever hosted on Stampede Park. Action-packed Competition days take place from September 2 - 5, 2009 and are flanked by the Opening Ceremony (Sept. 1), the Closing Ceremony (Sept. 6), and a celebration of WorldSkills Champions during the Labour Day Classic football game held at McMahon Stadium on Sept. 7, 2009.

Keynote by Sir Ken Robinson
Known for his humorous and candid approach on the need to reintroduce creativity into the classroom, Sir Ken Robinson is in town on June 8, 2009 giving a keynote address to the Calgary and area education sector.
His engagement will focus on how preparing students for the world is reflective of the industrial period and no longer applicable to the demands of today's society. Using an intriguing and an engaging platform, Sir Ken Robinson probes educational influencers to re-examine the benefits of a creativity-focused curriculum.

School Helps Kicks-off WorldSkills 2009
Maureen Hall, principal, and Linda Hanson, school leader of WorldSkills, of St. James Elementary Junior High School are planning a WorldSkills 'kick-off' afternoon with their students. Students will all have a Tug and Tess tattoo and will be greeted by the Mascots as they enter their gym to learn about what WorldSkills Calgary 2009 is all about. "We are excited about this once in a life time opportunity. We hope the exposure to the WorldSkills Competition provides our students with a greater awareness of the vast choices they have regarding future career choices".
