Destination Calgary
Calgary is located in Alberta, in Western Canada. It is a vibrant city that offers the best of all worlds - a cosmopolitan city of one million with outstanding outdoor adventure and pristine wilderness only an hour away in the Canadian Rockies. Opportunities to enjoy outdoor adventure are unsurpassed. Calgary is just minutes away from diverse outdoor sporting activities such as golfing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing and horseback riding.
The City of Calgary was the recipient of the World Health Organization’s ‘Safe City Award’ in 2002 and was named by the Mercer organization as the top city in the world for health and hygiene in 2004.

Its vibrant downtown core is linked to surrounding communities by a superior transportation system consisting of freeways, roads, buses and Light Rail Transit (LRT). Calgary has one of North America’s most comprehensive pathway systems, with 375 km of cycling and walking paths winding along the city’s waterways (Bow River, Elbow River, Glenmore Reservoir, Fish Creek and Nose Creek) and through nearly 3,300 hectares of parks and natural areas.
Nestled in the rolling foothills of the majestic Canadian Rockies, Calgary and area presents a contrasting picture of modern cityscape set against wide-open landscapes and snow-capped mountains. Four UNESCO Heritage Sites are located within the immediate vicinity. Less than an hour’s drive west of the city on the four-lane Trans-Canada Highway, the eastern slopes of the Rockies offer a wealth of seasonal outdoor activities: hiking, camping, golfing, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, dog sledding, canoeing and kayaking, rock and ice climbing and sightseeing.
