WorldSkills Calgary 2009 receives major funding support and announces honorary spokesperson
Calgary, Alberta - WorldSkills Calgary 2009 received a major boost today as Premier Ed Stelmach announced $24 million of funding support to held organize and stage the 40th WorldSkills Competition, taking place in Calgary from September 1-6, 2009.

WorldSkills Calgary 2009 to promote Calgary event at the 39th WorldSkills Competition in Shizuoka, Japan
Calgary, Alberta – To prepare for hosting the 40th WorldSkills Competition, WorldSkills Calgary 2009 is sending representatives to Shizuoka, Japan from November 14th to 21st. Facilitated by the WorldSkills International's Observer Program for future hosts, this will also provide a chance to promote the city and generate excitement surrounding the 2009 Competition in Calgary. Shizuoka represents the final WorldSkills Competition before Calgary welcomes the world.

Pre-event Economic Impact Study reveals WorldSkills Calgary 2009 may bring $82.5 million to Calgary as host city
Calgary, Alberta – WorldSkills Calgary 2009 has released details on a Pre-event Economic Impact Study commissioned by the Calgary Host Committee. Based on current operating budgets, the city could see up to $82.5 million injected into the economy as a direct result of hosting the WorldSkills Calgary 2009 Competition. Projections include $15.8 million in visitor expenditures and $55 million in operating expenditures.

Countdown to WorldSkills Calgary 2009 kicks off with launch of new website
Calgary, Alberta – Today, WorldSkills Calgary 2009 launched a new website (available at www.worldskills2009.com) during the second annual "Skills on the Hill" event on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to showcase the upcoming 2009 WorldSkills Competition in Calgary set for September 2009.
