WorldSkills Calgary 2009


The 40th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Calgary in September 2009. The biggest skills competition in the world will gather young skills professionals from 49 countries to compete in over 40 different skill categories drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors including policy makers, government representatives, employers, teachers, trainers and experts from around the world.

To make this extraordinary event the most successful WorldSkills Competition ever, we will require thousands of volunteers to host this event with enthusiasm, pride and dedication.

Calgary has a proven track record for hosting major international events including the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, the 1997 World Police/Fire Games and the G8 Summit in 2002. Among the legacies our city enjoys from these events is an unparalleled network of enthusiastic, experienced volunteers ready to put their collective pride and effort behind mounting the most successful WorldSkills Competition ever.

WorldSkills Quick Facts



  • 3,000 volunteers will be recruited to assist in the Lead-Up and Launch.
  • 150,000 student and public spectators will attend the competition.
  • The competitors will be housed in a Competitors´ Village, located on SAIT Campus.
